Chocolate City drags Brymo to court over N20 million

Chocolate City drags Brymo to court over N20 million

Upon Brymo's failure to keep his end the contract between him with Chocolate City, the record label was forced into a course of action that will most likely initiate a long term "beef" between the label and the singer. The label's management claims to have invested a whooping sum of N20 Million Naira on the singer, only for him to breach his contract after yielding just N3 Million Naira for the Music Powerhouse.

Premium Times reports have it that Brymo accused Chocolate City of short-changing him, claiming he never received the agreed advance payment meant for the development of his album "Son of A Carpenter." He further said that the label promised to give him a release from the contract, but later changed its mind. No royalties were ever paid to the singer on the "Son of A Carpenter" album, neither was he filled in on the amount of the monies expended by them for the album. The label also accused Brymo of not actualizing his career potential due to failure to follow simple instructions and insubordination.

The singer is also reported to have actively/passively promoted Indian hemp, which resulted in serious damages to his brand and the brands of other artists in the label. This attitude cost the singer endorsement deals from reputable companies. As a matter of fact, a major Nigerian telecommunication company is said to have pulled out of an N20 Million endorsement deal with Brymo because of his promotion of drugs. According to the management, the endorsement deal would have earned the label N10 Million.

Howbeit, Chocolate City demands N100 million in damages while Brymo’s lawyers ask the court to rule out the case because it lacked enough backing.
