5 Nigerian artistes whose careers collapsed upon leaving their labels

Record labels are the heavens of artistes because that is where they seem to transcend from a mere street and local club singers to renowned national/international music acts. While the careers of some musicians escalated the moment they switch labels or create theirs, some others dwindle and fade upon taking same actions. We all know of 2face, Wizkid and others, whose label switch further catapulted them into the limelight. Many took note and imitated. But sadly, not many had the same testimony. Check out 5 out of the numerous musicians whose careers crumbled upon leaving the labels that made them known.

9ice: - After giving fans some drama, raising dust of controversies during altercations with record labels, and eventually ending the once blissful marriage, he faded like smoke, and is now trying to appease the gods.

Wande Coal: The singer moved from being a "Mo'Hits" popular demand to becoming a scarce product upon the creation of Black Diamond, which has lost value like Nigeria’s crude oil.

Chuddy K: The cookie crumbled when Chuddy K walked away from SQN Records. Now Lil Kesh and Tekno have substituted the guy who once made the ladies go “Gaga Crazy.

D’Banj: Since the Koko Master left Don Jazzy to join Kanye West and Good Music, everything fell apart. He may be a legend. But it’s been hit and miss since he walked away from Don Jazzy.

Jesse Jagz: Nobody tests Nigeria’s god on the mic till thy nation come – even if you be litmus. Jago left Chocolate City and became emperor of Jagz Nation. His albums since then are considered too lugubrious for commercial consumption. His influence diminished extensively, though he still has cult following.
